WHO WE ARE
We're Passionate About Community
Our Story
The MSBC 5 Star Program grew out of the Morning Star Baptist Church with the goal of serving West Baltimore communities as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are focused and committed to major reinvestment efforts in the Security/Woodlawn and West Baltimore County and City communities. We are core to the community and take pride in affirming the following statement to the communities we serve..."If you need it, you can find it here!"

OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS SERVED

The MSBC 5 Star Program uses the principles of excellence to focus on improved job resources, youth skills development, and community enrichment.
Since its inception in 2001, the Program has served thousands of community members with services that help build and rebuild lives. The Program offers workforce development, re-entry programs, behavioral health services, youth development programs, and various multi-generational educational initiatives.
FUN FACT
The name of the organization is derived from “The Five Star Church” by Stan Toler, which encourages excellence in customer service and community work to better align members with their purpose.
Our Beginning
Initially, the Morning Star Baptist Church was focused on promoting itself as a partner in the community with servanthood and customer focus. We had a team of volunteers that did everything from developing long-term strategy to coordinating events. As the needs of the community grew, we expanded beyond the church's walls to become a 501(c)(3) Community Development Corporation (CDC). This transition allowed us to better fundraise for, partner with, and serve the greater West Baltimore communities.
From our very first 5 Star Limo and Transportation Service all the way to The Renaissance Center, Transitional Housing Program, Before & After School Tutoring, and Mentoring - we're always enhancing our services to better serve Baltimore.

How We Can Help
Our programs and services are tailored to support those who need help the most in our communities. Children can receive tutoring, computer lab access, STEM education, and other interactive experiences that will enrich their education.

Adults can access record expungement, re-entry programs, mental health support, job and interview skills training, legal aid, senior services, food pantries, and much more.
Our strong community network also creates opportunities for natural partnerships with a variety of charitable initiatives. We regularly partner with other organizations to offer enhanced resources in the community.
